NES India, MARAG ,Pastoral women Alliance celebrated Food Festival with around 350 pastorals women from Gujarat, India to observe World Food Day on 22 Oct 2018, the event was in solidarity with Land Rights Now campaign.
Pastorals have a rich cultural heritage with distinctness in their food, language, clothing’s, habitat, etc. Women celebrated their food by bringing traditional seeds from their respective regions, exchanged it, cook together the most famous traditional recipe of their regions. They shared their experiences around traditional food and its relationship with the grazing land, its nutritional value, how their food is under threat, how are they preserving it, the recipes and how are they transferring it to the future generations.
They sung songs of their foods and way of life. Pastoralist women alliance felicitated the pastoral women who migrates for the longest distance, who rears livestock efficiently that boosts milk production, preserving the traditional knowledge of treating and care livestock, who have a rich collection of traditional pastoral songs.
The event ended with traditional dance form Garaba where all women participated followed by lunch where the food from five regional kitchens was served.
